Notes
- To open Fax Service Manager, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, point to Fax, and then click Fax Service Manager.
- When you install a fax device, it is enabled for sending faxes by default, but not for receiving faxes.
- You can also enable a device to receive faxes manually on the Action menu. In Fax Service Manager, click a device, and then on the Action menu, click Manual Receive.
- Alternatively, you can configure a device to receive faxes on the Properties sheet for that device. Right-click a device, and then click Properties. Select the Receive faxes checkbox, and then select Manual Answer.
- Enabling manual answering means that incoming calls are not answered as fax calls automatically. This can be a useful option if fax and voice calls share the same incoming line.
Security
- You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure.
- It is good practice for administrators to use an account with restrictive permissions to perform routine, non-administrative tasks, and to use an account with broader permissions only when performing specific administrative tasks. To accomplish this without logging off and back on, log on with a regular user account, and then use the runas command to run the tools that require the broader permissions. For more information, see RunAs, in Windows Help and Support.
